Musix GNU+Linux is a multimedia operating system derived from Knoppix and Debian/Stable, specialized in audio and music production. It is intended for music production, graphic design, audio and video editing, and all kinds of creative tasks. As an install and live CD, the system boots directly from the CD without touching your hard drive; so later on, if you want to, you can install Musix. Currently, it has support for Spanish, Galician, Catalan, Basque, English, Portuguese, French, German, and Italian, but the user could install almost any language.
Musix GNU+Linux includes free high quality software that meets the guidelines defined by the Free Software Foundation (FSF).
Musix GNU+Linux 1.0r3 features:
- Linux kernel 2.6.23 that supports JACK audio connection kit for real-time tasks. More optimized kernels are available and ready for installation through apt-get or Synaptic.
- Kernel Module Configuration: module-init-tools 3.3-pre4
- Automatic hardware detection (udev 105)
- Advanced Linux Sound Architecture 1.0.13
- Window System: Xorg 7.1
- Desktops: KDE 3.5.5
- Same colour palette and icon theme (crystalsvg) were used to make KDE and GNOME applications look almost identical.
- Multimedia: Ardour 2.1 (audio sequencer), Cinelerra (video editing), Bluefish (web design), The GIMP (image manipulation), Inkscape (vector graphic design), Blender3D (3D rendering and animation), FreeType 2.2.1 (portable font engine), Mscore (MIDI scoring), nekobee (TB-303 DSSI), Musix Control, and more.
