Product Description
KnoppMyth is a Linux distribution that was originally a remaster of Knoppix. It was rebuilt from scratch using Debian Sid GNU/Linux and the Knoppix hardware detection scripts. KnoppMyth is geared at setting up a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from your computer in a quick and easy manner. Digital Video Recorders store television broadcastings on a hard drive in a digital format, allowing viewers to pause, rewind, fast forword, and continue playing, or record a television program for viewing later.
KnoppMyth takes advantage of MythTV and simplifies its installation process. MythTV is an open source DVR project. In addition to the traditional DVR functions, MythTV has the following modules:
- MythArchive: Allows you to create DVDs of recorded shows.
- MythBrowser: Browse the Internet from your couch.
- MythDVD: DVD player and backup.
- MythGallery: Image viewer and slide show module.
- MythGame: Frontend for various emulators and PC games.
- MythMusic: Store and listen to your music collection.
- MythNews: RSS newsfeed module.
- MythPhone: Video conference from your couch.
- MythVideo: Frontend for playing videos (MPEGs, XVID, etc).
- MythWeather: Frontend for getting the weather forecast.
- MythWeb: Control various aspects of MythTV from a web browser.
Since MythTV's architecture has a user interface (frontend) that is separate from the backend, multiple systems can communicate with one another.
KnoppMyth not only includes MythTV and all of its official plugins (listed above), but almost everything you need to easily setup a powerful home entertainment system. Such as:
- Apache, NFS, Samba, and other various daemons.
- MythBurn: Allows you to produce a DVD of recorded shows via MythWeb or via MythBurn-UI.
- MythStream: Plays audio and video feeds from the Internet.
- MythStreamTV: Allows for the live transcoding and streaming for MPEG-1 and 2 content.
- nuv2disc: Plugin that allows you to create D/VCDs of recorded programs.
- nuvexport: Allows you to export/transcode recordings to various formats.
Note: At a minimum, a TV tuner card that is supported in Linux is required to receive TV broadcasts.
