Product Description
KNOPPIX/Math is a project to archive free mathematical software and free mathematical documents and offer them on KNOPPIX. It provides a desktop for mathematicians that can be set up easily and quickly. Documents can be viewed, edited, and created, using TeX with WhizzyTEX and Active-DVI, GNU TeXmacs, Kile (GUI TeX editor), Emacs, and Openoffice.org. Firefox is the preferred Web browser.

KNOPPIX/Math/2008 is based on Knoppix 5.1.1.

The DVD also includes free mathematical software systems and libraries with documentation, such as those described below:

  • BLAS (Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms) are high quality "building block"routines for performing basic vector and matrix operations.
  • Coq is a formal proof management system based on lambda-C, proofs are mechanically checked.
  • Dynagraph is an interactive 3D plotting utility that draws 3D curves and surfaces representing mathematical expressions and numerical data.
  • GAP (Groups, Algorithms and Programming) is a system for computational discrete algebra.
  • Geomview is an interactive 3D viewing program that lets you view, manipulate, and create your own three-dimensional objects with your mouse.
  • GiNaC is a C++ library for symbolic mathematical calculations, designed to allow the creation of integrated systems that embed symbolic manipulations.
  • GMP (GNU Multiple Precision) is a library for arbitrary precision arithmetic, operating on signed integers, rational numbers, and floating point numbers.
  • Gnuplot is a command-driven interactive function plotting program.
  • Hyplane is an interactive 3D viewing program for polygonal models.
  • jtem (Java Tools for Experimental Mathematics) is a collection of tools and algorithms implemented in Java.
  • Kali lets you draw symmetrical patterns based on any of the 17 tiling groups and provides support for theoretical analysis.
  • Kan is a system for computing in the ring of differential operators D.
  • KSEG is an interactive geometry program for exploring Euclidean geometry.
  • LAPACK is a library of Fortran 77 subroutines for solving the most commonly occurring problems in numerical linear algebra.
  • Macaulay2 is a software system devoted to supporting research in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra.
  • Maxima is a Common Lisp implementation of MIT's Macsyma system for computer based algebra.
  • NZMATH is a Python based number theory oriented calculation system.
  • Octave is a high-level language for numerical computations.
  • OpenXM (Open message eXchange for Mathematics) is an infrastructure for mathematical communication.
  • PARI/GP is a computer algebra system designed for fast computations in number theory.
  • PHCpack is designed to implement the development of polynomial homotopies exploiting structure in order to better approximate all isolated solutions.
  • Polymake is a versatile framework for experimental discrete mathematics.
  • Qhull computes convex hulls, Delaunay triangulations, halfspace intersections, and Voronoi diagrams.
  • R is a language for statistical computing and graphics.
  • SAGE (Software for Algebra and Geometry Experimentation) is collection of software for research and teaching.
  • SINGULAR is a Computer Algebra System for polynomial computations.
  • SnapPea is a program for creating and studying hyperbolic 3-manifolds.
  • surf is a tool to visualize some aspects of real algebraic geometry.
  • Surface Evolver is an interactive program for the modelling of liquid surfaces shaped by various forces and constraints.
  • SYNAPS (SYmbolic Numeric APplicationS) is a library devoted to symbolic and numeric computations.
  • Teruaki is a mapping class group puzzle game.
  • XaoS is an interactive fractal zoomer that can display many different fractal types.
  • Yorick is a language, designed for post-processing or steering large scientific simulation codes.

Customer Reviews
I don't understand how you can give excellent support and some other computer companies can't? Why is that. I have NEVER, I MEAN NEVER had a problem with you wonderful folks! I think the major computer companies need to apply your business ethic. -- Robert M.
